About the WRN

The White Rock Navy got started in 2009 as I prepared for the 2010 Missouri River 340 marathon canoe/kayak race. Over 100 of my friends signed up for updates and followed me as I got ready and during the race across Missouri. It was one heck of an adventure and, through the generosity of my friends, we raised $5,000.00 for relief efforts in Haiti.

In 2011 the bug bit me again and I entered the Tour du Teche. I thought this would be a bit easier, just 135 miles. But, it turned out to be much more difficult. I finished 27th out of 50 but only if you consider me finishing ahead of the 22 boats that dropped out!\

2012 was an off year but in 2013 my son and I entered another MR340. We both finished it and, although it was another amazing experience, I figure 3 of these ultras is enough. So, the WRN as a racing “thing” is over. I’ll keep the boat and maybe post some info about relaxing trips in it – I’d really like to get it into the big water, maybe somewhere like Belize! We’ll just have to see what comes up.
